What is Roadside Services?

Roadside services, also commonly known as roadside assistance, provide aid for motorists whose vehicles have suffered a mechanical failure that leaves the operator stranded. They represent a type of auto insurance or an additional benefit in some vehicle warranties, or separate service packages from companies specializing in this area.

Common types of roadside services include:

  1. Towing: If the vehicle cannot be repaired on the spot, the roadside service will provide a tow to a nearby repair shop.
  2. Tire Change: If a tire goes flat, the service professional will replace it with a spare tire on the spot.
  3. Jump Start/Battery Service: If a vehicle’s battery dies, roadside service personnel can jump-start the vehicle. In some cases, they can even replace the battery on the spot.
  4. Fuel Delivery: If a vehicle runs out of fuel, a limited fuel supply can be delivered to enable the driver to reach the nearest fuel station.
  5. Lockout & locksmith service: If the keys are lost, stolen, or locked inside the vehicle, roadside assistance can help unlock the vehicle or, if necessary, organize a locksmith service.
  6. Winching or extrication service: If a vehicle gets stuck (e.g., in snow, mud), the service includes removing it.

These services are designed to help drivers continue their trip or reach a place where the necessary repairs can be performed. The coverage and limits of roadside services can vary significantly between providers; hence drivers should understand their plan details.
